Dragon Petroleum History
Our Bangor and Dyserth depots are steeped in local history.
The Bangor depot has its origins in selling candles to local miners, then paraffin when candles were replaced by paraffin lamps, moving into fuel distribution when oil central heating started to replace coal for heating. With its roots going back so far, Bangor is the oldest depot in the NWF Fuels depot network.
Originally operated by a company called JP Oils, NWF acquired Dyserth in 1990, adding it to its growing national network of fuel depots.
In 1993, Dragon Petroleum (then based in Mold, Flintshire) was acquired by NWF Fuels, part of the NWF Group. As one of the largest distributors of fuels in the UK, NWF Fuels understands the importance of the relationship that depots have with the communities they serve, and so kept the Dragon Petroleum that the people of North Wales had come to know so well.
This acquisition has also brought a series of other benefits, from a robust national supply chain and streamlined processes to a modernised fleet of tankers that is more reliable and sustainable, allowing us to improve our service to customers and our sustainability even more.
